With over sixty Agro-tech companies in Nigeria as of the year 2021, there might be some level of confusion as to whether or not you should choose Farmsby.
That is the essence of this article; to make you realize that investing in Farmsby is undeniably a step in the right direction.
Before we dive into what makes Farmsby the best choice you should understand what exactly the vision behind Farmsby is.
As Crude oil began to dominate Nigeria's foreign exchange earnings, agricultural productivity shrank due to neglect and underinvestment. Soon local production struggled to meet demands amid a population boom.
Nigeria's annual food import bill grew to about $20 billion every year (Audu Ogbeh, 2015)
Today, more than 80 per cent of Nigeria’s farmers are smallholder farmers and they are the main producers of over 90 per cent of domestic output.
A World Bank 2016 report found that “half of working Nigerians are in smallholder farming” but this group accounts for the “poorest 40 per cent of the population compared to only 17 per cent of wage workers.”
Poverty amongst small-scale farmers is due to a myriad of problems including low use of mechanisation, poor agricultural extension systems, poor road networks, inadequate market information, and lack of access to credit and quality inputs such as fertilizer and seed.
In recent times, climate change — which is marked by irregular rainfall patterns and rising temperatures — has made things worse.
This is the problem that Farmsby is solving by leading a Digital Agricultural Revolution to address these shortfalls in order to address food insecurity in Nigeria.
At Farmsby we have 2 major Farms located at Ondo and Rivers States.
These farms are 6 hectares and half a hectare respectively.
The first thing you would notice at an on-site visit to any of our farms is how aesthetically pleasing our farms are.
Our farms are not just your regular everyday farms.
The vegetative arrangement on the farm is very colourful due to the abundance of different species of vegetation on the farmland and Greenhouse.
We grow different varieties of Pepper; Bell pepper (red and yellow) Habanero i.e. Atarodo (Red and yellow).
The pepper becomes green first before fully becoming red or yellow.
The varieties of tomatoes grown on the farm are Plum and beef tomatoes all in a properly spaced and neat environment.
The crops grown on our farms are pepper, tomatoes, cucumber and sweet corn. These crops were chosen not only because they are in high demand but also because they have high-profit margins ranging from 1000% to 2000% depending on the season they are planted.
Another reason why these crops were chosen is that their vegetative cycle does not exceed six months.
This means that when planted, in less than six months, the crop can be harvested.
For example, cucumber is grown within 45 days and can be harvested continuously for a full month after.
Tomatoes are grown within 90-100 days and can be harvested for a month or two after and so on.
Some crops in the Greenhouse (Indoor varieties) can be harvested for 6 months continuously because the change in humidity is slow in the Greenhouse.
This works great for the investment cycle of our plans (Investment Cycle is 3 months, 6 months or 12 months) meaning that at every point in time your investment will fall into a harvest cycle. That is profit guaranteed!
Apart from the crops grown, Rice, a staple food in Nigeria is also processed and branded on our farms.
I know you must be thinking, "well what about other crops; Plantain, Yam, Cassava and the rest?" These crops take several months and sometimes years to fully mature which makes it unsafe for the kind of investment we offer.
That's why we have Farmsby Trade; where sellers meet buyers and you get to have an abundance of all the crops you can think of; just not at the expense of your investment.
TECHNOLOGY ON THE FARM
Our farms are equipped with technologies that make farming faster and easier.
A drilling machine is used in place of a cutlass on the farm.
A motor saw is used in place of a machete.
An automatic mist blower for spraying instead of a manual sprayer.
A semi-automatic tractor and Ridge maker is also available on the farm.
This makes farming easier for both the skilled and unskilled labourers and our farmers who by the way are all educated graduates equipped with the latest processes and techniques in Agriculture.
The Drip system of irrigation is used on our farms; water flows through the drip and serves directly to the root of each plant.
We use a Lyster to generate electricity which is used to pump water to our 90,000-litre water reservoir.
Three boreholes of 2 horsepower capacity serve and supply the reservoir on a 24-hour basis meaning there is a constant supply of water not just for the dry season but also in the greenhouse where the indoor varieties are grown.
